An overdue update!

Updating from my phone quickly before I go into nerd girl mode to read some Game of Thrones. 🙂

Sorry it’s been a bit since I’ve updated, I’ve had a pretty stressful few weeks. For those of you who don’t know, next week is my last week at the law firm and then I go on to student teaching.

I’m terrified. And it’s been overwhelming.

I’ve also noticed a big decay in my fitness because of it, but I am working on that. Which is the cause of the update.

Dan got me into playing ultimate frisbee. So twice a week, I play in a league of sorts in our area with him. We actually played tonight, and despite the fitness decay, I’m getting better. Especially in sprinting. I’m also getting more confident in catching and actually try to position myself in places where I can catch.

Tonight I made a mistake that’s going to happen a lot more though… I decided to run a lap of the park before we played. That’s how I found out I’m getting out of shape more. It was a bigger struggle, and we were just shy of 2 miles. My average was 13:27, which is still disney timing but… I walked a lot more than I wanted to.

So it’s back to practicing a lot more. I added on some squats, sit ups, and push ups when I got home to try to balance all the running between the training and frisbee. My body hates me for it, but hey, it’ll have to get use to it right? 🙂

Post-Christmas Updating!

Happy post-Christmas everyone!!! Hope Santa got you what you wanted. 😉

I tried to be really good this Christmas with what I ate… which is hard when your family (and your boyfriend’s family) has enough desserts that they could take over their own kitchen table. But I managed. Somehow. I think the carrots at Dan’s house really helped. And the mimosas in the morning, which we have decided to make a yearly tradition from now on.

Since then, I have been to the gym twice (and it’s only Wednesday!), and I’m going back tonight again. Three days in a row. I’m in PAIN. But pain’s good, right? Right. At least, that’s what they tell you.

So, last night at the gym, I was working out with a Zumba friend of mine and her otherhalf (who looks like Keanu Reeves, a LOT). To say it was intense would be an understatement.

One of the exercises we did was a pyramid type of ordeal with squats and push ups (see this article about how to do it).  It started with 1 body squat, and 9 push ups… and ended with 9 body squats and 1 push up. For someone who can’t really do a push up at all, this was extra challenging. But I did my best, meaning I was doing girly push ups on my knees and only able to go down about 2-3 inches. New goal in life? To do real push ups.

We also did jumping jack pyramids (10 seconds to 20 seconds to 30 seconds, and then back down 30-20-10), and mountain climbers for two minutes. And they were doing burpees (click click), which I could not do at all. I almost fell over when I tried to get back up.

Oh, and some cardio things. It was definitely high-intensity last night (seriously, if someone thinks that BodyPump is hardcore, they have no idea… and I love me some BodyPump!), and I am most definitely sore from it. Tonight, we are going back to the gym (yayyy), and are going to be doing some running on the treadmill (ackkkk). But I’m looking forward to getting back to it. 🙂 How are you doing with your post-holiday exercise/diet? Any successes? Any roadblocks?

I’ve been thinking about changing up my layout on the blog… but I know even less than nothing about doing anything to it really. Soooo, if someone out there in blogsphere happens to stumble across this post, and knows layouts, and is super awesome… I’m looking. 🙂
